We’re pleased to announce the installation of a new electric vehicle charging point at our Quadrant Precision Engineering workshop. This investment demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and supporting our team’s transition to electric vehicles.

Supporting the Electric Vehicle Transition

As more members of our team make the switch to electric vehicles, workplace charging has become an increasingly important amenity. Our new charging facility removes range anxiety, eliminates the need for separate charging stops during the working day, and supports our employees’ personal sustainability goals.

The Solax 22kW Smart EV Charger

We’ve installed a Solax Generation 2 smart EV charger with the following capabilities:

  • 22kW three-phase charging: Delivers significantly faster charging than standard 7kW home chargers, adding approximately 80-100 miles of range per hour
  • Smart connectivity: WiFi and mobile app connectivity for monitoring and scheduling
  • Load balancing: Intelligent power distribution to prevent electrical system overload
  • Universal compatibility: Type 2 tethered connector works with all modern UK electric vehicles
  • Weather-resistant construction: IP65-rated housing for reliable year-round performance

The 22kW capability future-proofs our infrastructure as vehicle charging technology continues to evolve.

Part of Our Broader Sustainability Commitment

This EV charging installation complements our ongoing sustainability initiatives:

  • 22% reduction in energy consumption through LED lighting upgrades and machine efficiency monitoring
  • 15% material waste reduction via advanced CAD/CAM programming and process optimisation
  • 95% metal recycling rate through partnerships with certified recycling specialists
  • Local supplier prioritisation to reduce transportation emissions

Environmental Impact

The charging facility will support emission-free commuting for our team members. If just three employees charge regularly at the workshop, we’ll facilitate approximately 15,000 zero-emission miles annually – eliminating roughly 2 tonnes of CO₂ emissions compared to equivalent petrol or diesel vehicles.

Our smart charging system can be programmed to prioritise charging during periods of high renewable energy generation on the National Grid, further reducing carbon impact.

Supporting Our Clients’ Sustainability Goals

Many of our clients in aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, and other sectors are working towards ambitious net-zero targets. As part of their supply chains, our environmental performance contributes to their scope 3 emissions. Investments like EV charging infrastructure demonstrate that we’re actively supporting their decarbonisation objectives.

Employee Benefits

Workplace EV charging provides tangible benefits for our team:

  • Convenience: Charge during the working day without separate stops
  • Cost savings: Lower charging costs compared to public rapid charging networks
  • Range confidence: Eliminates concerns about running out of charge
  • Time efficiency: Focus on work rather than finding charging facilities

These amenities also support our recruitment and retention efforts in a competitive market for skilled engineering talent. Increasingly, workplace sustainability credentials influence career decisions, particularly among younger professionals.

Looking Forward

The EV charging installation represents one step in our ongoing commitment to sustainable manufacturing. We’re exploring additional opportunities including solar generation integration, advanced energy management systems, and continued process optimisation to reduce our environmental footprint.

As the UK manufacturing sector continues its transition towards net-zero, we’re committed to playing our part whilst maintaining the precision engineering excellence our clients expect.
